Les internes en médecine semblent davantage enclins à développer un TAG. Certains facteurs protecteurs (soutien social, activité physique) ont déjà été identifiés dans la littérature scientifique. Parallèlement, des études ont montré un impact positif du contact avec les animaux sur différents paramètres physiques (diminution du taux de cortisol, de la fréquence cardiaque) et subjectifs (questionnaires de stress et d’anxiété). Ce travail de recherche avait pour objectif de répondre à la question suivante : « Le contact régulier avec un animal de compagnie peut-il être considéré comme un facteur protecteur du trouble anxieux généralisé chez les internes en médecine ? ». Méthode : Il s’agissait d’une étude quantitative par questionnaire pseudonymisé diffusé via internet auprès des internes en médecine français. Le niveau d’anxiété a été mesuré via l’échelle GAD-7. Une échelle de Likert en 4 points a été utilisée pour définir l’opinion des répondants sur la réduction du stress au contact des animaux. Résultats : 204 réponses ont été analysées. 104 internes avaient une suspicion de TAG selon leur résultat au GAD-7 (supérieur à 4), divisé en 2 catégories de sévérité (« léger » de 5 à 9 et « modérée à sévère » de 10 à 21). 123 répondants rapportaient des contacts réguliers avec des animaux. La proportion de sujets exposés et non exposés aux animaux n’était pas significativement différente entre les 3 groupes de niveau d’anxiété (« absence », « léger », « modérée à sévère »). La moyenne du score GAD-7 était significativement plus élevée chez les internes exposés aux animaux. Ces résultats divergent avec l’analyse d’opinion : 181 internes rapportaient une réduction du stress au contact des animaux. Conclusion : Il serait intéressant de mener une étude qualitative pour recueillir le vécu des internes en médecine ayant un animal de compagnie sur la diminution de leur anxiété. Introduction: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a condition frequently encountered in primary care. Medical interns appear to be more prone to developing GAD. Certain protective factors (social support, physical activity) have already been identified in the scientific literature. At the same time, studies have shown a positive impact of contact with animals on various physical (reduced cortisol levels, heart rate) and subjective (stress and anxiety questionnaires) parameters. The objective of this research was to answer the following question: "Can regular contact with a pet be considered a protective factor against generalized anxiety disorder in medical interns?" Method: This was a quantitative study using a pseudonymized questionnaire distributed online French medical interns. Anxiety levels were measured using the GAD-7 scale. A 4-point Likert scale was used to define respondents' opinions on stress reduction through contact with animals. Results: 204 responses were analyzed. 104 residents had a suspicion of GAD based on their GAD-7 score (greater than 4), divided into two severity categories ("mild" from 5 to 9 and "moderate to severe" from 10 to 21). 123 respondents reported regular contact with animals. The proportion of subjects exposed and not exposed to animals was not significantly different between the three anxiety level groups ("no," "mild," "moderate to severe"). The mean GAD-7 score was significantly higher among residents exposed to animals. These results diverge from the opinion analysis: 181 residents reported a reduction in stress from contact with animals. Conclusion: It would be interesting to conduct a qualitative study to collect the experiences of medical residents with pets regarding the reduction of their anxiety.
