Son application en psychiatrie, en anesthésie, en cardiologie, en kinésithérapie, en lymphologie et en algologie montre une efficacité intéressante. Depuis des siècles, soulager et guérir la douleur sont des quêtes qui stimulent le monde scientifique. L’une d’entre elles retient particulièrement l’attention. Il s'agit du Syndrome Douloureux Régional Complexe (SDRC), communément appelé Algodystrophie. Résultant d’un dysfonctionnement du système nerveux végétatif (SNV), suite à un choc physique ou psychologique, elle engendre de la douleur, des troubles vasculaires et moteurs, une hypersudation, des œdèmes et une altération trophique. Sa physiopathologie fait intervenir de nombreux facteurs dont l’intrication est susceptible de générer un cercle vicieux. Aucun consensus thérapeutique ne permet de guérir ce syndrome. Cependant, le large champ d’application de l’électrothérapie laisse à penser qu’elle pourrait être exploitée pour soulager ces symptômes. En effet, ceux-ci se sont retrouvés dans des pathologies déjà traitées par cette technique. Il demeure toutefois des questions non résolues, notamment en ce qui concerne les paramètres de la stimulation, la durée du traitement ou la voie la plus appropriée. Nous sommes encore au stade de l’expérimentation. Elle laisse beaucoup de possibilités et de nombreuses recherches cliniques tentent de mieux comprendre l’algodystrophie. Electrotherapy is an ancestral technique used in many fields. Its application in psychiatry, anesthesia, cardiology, physiotherapy, lymphology and algology shows interesting effectiveness. For centuries, relieving and curing pain have been quests that have stimulated the scientific world. One of them has attracted particular attention. It is the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), commonly called Algodystrophy. Resulting from a dysfunction of the vegetative nervous system (SNV), following a physical or psychological shock, it causes pain, vascular and motor disorders, excessive sweating, edema and trophic alteration. Its pathophysiology involves many factors whose intertwining is likely to generate a vicious circle. No therapeutic consensus can cure this syndrome. However, the wide scope of application of electrotherapy suggests that it could be used to relieve these symptoms. Indeed, these have been found in pathologies already treated by this technique. However, there are still unresolved questions, particularly regarding the parameters of stimulation, the duration of treatment or the most appropriate route. We are still at the experimental stage. It leaves many possibilities and many clinical studies are trying to better understand algodystrophy.
