Si aujourd’hui ce modèle évolutif a été largement délaissé, on sait encore peu de choses sur les spécificités des systèmes techniques qui ont été mis en place par les populations côtières. Le long de la façade atlantique européenne, plusieurs entités archéologiques attribuées à des populations côtières de l’Holocène nous sont parvenues. Autour du golfe de Gascogne, les amas coquilliers de Bretagne (France) ou ceux des Asturies (Espagne) témoignent par leur seule présence de l’intense exploitation des ressources marines. Dans ces contextes, la production des outils en pierre taillée s’intègre dans les normes techniques du second Mésolithique. S’il est clair que ces traditions dans la taille lithique ne se limitent pas seulement à l’occurrence côtière, la fonction et le fonctionnement de ces outils pourraient faire appel à des traditions techniques spécifiques à ces contextes littoraux. Dans cette thèse, nous avons cherché à mieux caractériser le système technique des populations côtières à travers l’étude fonctionnelle des outils en pierre taillée de trois amas coquilliers bretons (Beg-er-Vil, Téviec et Port-Neuf) et de deux asturiens (El Mazo et El Toral III). L’objectif final est celui d’aborder la question d’une potentielle spécificité des techniques dans la sphère côtière. L'étude des traces d'utilisation a révélé qu'il existe une certaine cohérence fonctionnelle au sein des deux régions d'étude. Cependant, le fonctionnement des outils identifiés ne peut être incontestablement associé à des techniques spécifiquement côtières. Dans certains cas, le fonctionnement des outils relève de traditions connues à une échelle suprarégionale, transversales à diverses zones géographiques, tant terrestres que côtières. Dans d’autres cas, l'utilisation de certains outils pourrait répondre à des choix techniques spécifiques, mais qui semblent répondre à des réalités essentiellement culturelles. The occupation and exploitation of the coast have often been studied from the angle of a process of human adaptation in which technology would have played a major role. If today this evolutionary model has been largely neglected, we still know little about the specificities of the technical systems that have been employed by coastal groups. Along the Atlantic European façade, several archaeological entities attributed to Holocene period are well known. Around the Bay of Biscay, the shell middens of Brittany (France) or those of Asturias (Spain) testify by their only presence of the large exploitation of marine resources. In these contexts, the production of knapped tools is part of the technical standards of the second Mesolithic. While these traditions in lithic knapping are not limited only to marine environments, the function and functioning of tools could reflect technical traditions specific to these coastal contexts. In this work we have sought to deepen the characterization of the technical system of coastal populations through the functional study of the knapped tools from three shell middens from Brittany (Beg-er-Vil, Téviec and Port-Neuf) and two from Asturias (El Mazo and El Toral III). The final objective is to address the question of a potential specificity of techniques in the coastal sphere. The study of the use-wears revealed that there is a certain functional consistency in both study regions. However, the functioning of the identified tools cannot be undeniably associated to specifically coastal techniques. In some cases, the functioning of the tools arises from technical traditions known at a supra-regional scale, transversal to various geographical areas, both terrestrial and coastal. On the other hand, the use of certain tools could respond to specific technical choices, but which seem to respond to essentially cultural realities.
