Méthode : Une étude transversale a été menée sous forme d’autoquestionnaires remis aux patients. Résultat : 32,6% de la patientèle de l’unité d’odontologie du CHU de Caen est en situation de précarité sociale. Ces patients ont significativement plus de dents cariées et moins de dents obturées que le reste de notre échantillon. La plupart des patients consultant pour une urgence dentaire n’était pas suivis par un chirurgien-dentiste traitant et 55% des patients interrogés ont déclaré ne pas avoir consulté de dentiste depuis plus d’un an. Conclusion : La patientèle de l’unité hospitalière présente une proportion élevée de patients en précarité sociale. La prise en charge d’urgences dentaires au CHU de Caen permet probablement un contournement des impossibilités de prise en charge en libéral. Objectives: our goal was to study the profile of the adult patients going to the Serge Goguel dentistry unit at the university hospital of Caen as well as their healthcare pathways. Method: A cross-sectional study, in the form of self-assessment questionnaires given to patients. Results: 32.6% of the dentistry unit patients of the university hospital of Caen are socially uninsured. These patients have significantly more decayed teeth and less filled teeth than the rest of our sample. Most patients going to the hospital for a dental emergency did not have an attending dentist, and 55% of the patients surveyed declared that they had not consulted a dentist for more than a year. Conclusion: The patient population of the hospital unit has a high proportion of socially precarious patients. Emergency dental care offered at the university hospital of Caen is probably a good way to get around the problems faced by many patients who cannot consult private dentists in emergency situations.
