Néanmoins, il n’existe pas de définition consensuelle de la fin de vie. Cela peut conduire à des différences entre les attentes des médecins traitants et celles de leurs patients. La plupart des études s’intéressant aux attentes des patients en fin de vie sont orientées directement sur les soins palliatifs. En évitant cette influence, l’objectif de notre étude était de recueillir les attentes concernant leur avenir des patients considérés dans leur dernière année de vie par leur médecin traitant. Méthode. – Notre étude utilise la méthode qualitative par entretiens semi-dirigés. L’échantillonnage était raisonné et les patients ont été inclus jusqu’à atteindre la suffisance des données. L’analyse a été réalisée manuellement en s’inspirant de la méthode par théorisation ancrée jusqu’à aboutir à la construction d’un modèle explicatif.Résultats. – Pour quelques patients seulement, la conscience d’être en fin de vie les poussent à entamer une démarche palliative alors que d’autres envisagent l’avenir sereinement et ne considèrent pas leur mort comme proche. Certains patients sont inquiets pour leur avenir et n’arrivent pas à se projeter. Discussion. – Il a été constaté qu’une majorité de patient ne s’est pas exprimé sur la prise en charge palliative alors que cette situation le requière par définition. Il est donc nécessaire de comprendre le positionnement des patients concernant leur avenir afin de les accompagner au mieux dans leur fin de vie. La méthode par Planification Anticipée des soins peut être une solution malgré ses limites. Introduction. – We can define the end of life by the sentence : « I would not be surprise if my patient dies during the next 12 months ». But, there is no consensual definition about end of life. This can lead to differences between the expectations of general practitioners and those of their patients. Most of the studies focusing on the expectations of end-of-life patients are directly oriented towards palliative care. By avoiding this influence, the objective of our study was to collect the future expectations of patients considered in their last year of life by their general practitioners. Method. – Our study uses the qualitative method by semi-directed interviews. Sampling was reasoned and patients were included until data sufficiency was reached. The analysis was carried out manually, drawing inspiration from the grounded theory method, until the construction of an explanatory model was achieved. Results. – For some patients, the awareness of being at the end of their life pushes them to begin a palliative approach, while others consider the future without worries and do not consider their death as near. Some patients are worried about their future and cannot project themselves. Discussion. – It was found that many patients did not comment on palliative care, although this situation requires it by definition. It is therefore necessary to understand the positioning of patients regarding their future to best support them in their end of life. The Advanced Care Planning method can be a solution despite its limits.
