Il est désormais établi qu’il joue un rôle majeur dans les fonctions de barrières, d’immunité ou encore de digestion. Cependant, son lien avec le système nerveux est un nouvel axe de recherche. En effet, il existe un axe intestin-cerveau qui permet un échange d’information bidirectionnel. Cette communication s’effectue grâce au nerf vague qui peut être activé par des cellules immunitaires, des acides gras, des peptides ou encore des neurotransmetteurs. Toutes ces molécules activatrices sont modulées par le microbiote intestinal et notamment certaines bactéries appelées psychobiotiques. Ces différentes voies de communication sont donc une nouvelle voie dans le traitement de la dépression et de l’anxiété. Dans ce travail, nous avons fait l’inventaire des études les plus récentes ayant analysé une ou plusieurs souches de psychobiotiques. Parmi celles-ci, le Bifidobacterium infantis est particulièrement étudié. Des études précliniques et cliniques ont étudié différents marqueurs de l’anxiété et de la dépression pour évaluer l’efficacité de cette souche ; elles ont démontré que le Bifidobacterium infantis possède un effet anxiolytic-like et antidépresseur. The intestinal microbiota is the most studied micobian flora over the past few years. It is now established that it plays a major role in the functions of barriers, immunity or digestion. However, its link with the nervous system is a new research area. Indeed, there is an intestine-brain axis that allows bidirectional information exchange. This communication is done through the vagus nerve that can be activated by immune cells, fatty acids, peptides or neurotransmitters. All these activating molecules are modulated by the intestinal microbiota and in particular certain bacteria called psychobiotics. These different communication channels are therefore a new way of treating depression and anxiety. In this work, we have made an inventory of the most recent studies that analyzed one or more strains of psychobiotics. Among these, Bifidobacterium infantis is particularly studied. Preclinical and clinical studies have studied different markers of anxiety and depression to evaluate the efficacy of this strain; they demonstrated that Bifidobacterium infantis has an anxiolytic-like and antidepressant effect.
