La consommation d’anxiolytiques et antidépresseurs ne cesse de croitre parallèlement à l’augmentation du nombre de patients atteints de pathologies mentales. En 2013, les psychobiotiques sont défini pour la première fois comme des organismes vivants qui, lorsqu'ils sont ingérés en quantités adéquates, produisent un effet bénéfique sur la santé chez les patients souffrant d'une maladie psychiatrique. Le but de cette thèse a été d’étudier les psychobiotiques et le lien qui existe entre ces bactéries et l’axe hypothalamo-hypophyso-surrénalien responsable du stress. Alors que la principale prise en charge thérapeutique des pathologies liées au stress est pharmacologique, les psychobiotiques au potentiel psychotrope offrent un nouveau domaine de recherche vaste et passionnant. Stress is a concern in nowadays society. The consumption of anxiolytics and antidepressants continues to grow along with the number of patients with mental illnesses. In 2013, psychobiotics was defined for the first time as “live organisms that when ingested in adequate amounts cause health benefits in patients suffering from psychiatric disorders”. The aim of this thesis was to study psychobiotics and the link that exists in between those bacteria and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responsible for stress. While the main therapeutic management of stress-related pathologies is pharmacological, psychobiotics with psychotropic potential offer a new and exciting field of research.
