On estime à 84% la prévalence, toutes formes confondues, de la lombalgie dans la population adulte générale pour un coût estimé à plus d’1 milliard d’euros par an. Souvent considérée comme un symptôme et non comme une pathologie la lombalgie est devenue un problème de santé publique auquel le pharmacien est de plus en plus confronté. Le pharmacien d’officine a une place importante dans la lombalgie commune chronique via la détection et l’orientation des patients, la dispensation, le conseil et l’accompagnement des patients et de leurs thérapeutiques médicamenteuses ou non grâce à sa grande disponibilité et à ses connaissances scientifiques. Son rôle pourrait être encore enrichi par l’aspect prévention de la lombalgie avec le soutien des pouvoirs publics, notamment sur l’éducation thérapeutique du patient via des entretiens pharmaceutiques lombalgie centrés sur le patient et en se basant sur des outils déjà existants Low back pain is a widespread pathology associated with significant morbidity in industrialized countries. It is estimated that 84% of the general adult population is affected by low back pain at a cost estimated at more than 1 billion euros per year. Often considered as a symptom and not as a disease back pain has become a public health issue which pharmacists have to deal with increasingly. The pharmacist has an important role to play in chronic low back pain through detection and orientation of patients, the dispensation, the advices and support patients and their drug (or not) therapies thanks to its large availability and its scientific knowledge. Its role could be still enriched by the prevention action, with the support of public authorities, including therapeutic education of the patient with interviews centered on the patients’ own case of back pain and based on tools that already exist.
